PAPER IN SCIENCE

A paper coauthored by Phantom-g's members was published in Science.  The article describes the magnetoelectric coupling in a Yb3+-based complex and reflects a long collaboration (since 2007) with J. Long and J. Larionova from Instituto Charles Gerhardt de Montpellier (Universidade de Montpellier/CNRS). The paper is available here.

LD CaRLOS got a Najing Tech  UNIVERSITY Visiting Professorship

Luís Carlos got a Najing Tech Visiting Professorship, in Nanjing Tech University, P.R. China on 25 of December 2016.  After the ceremony, Luís Carlos gave a Institute of Advanced Materials Sparkling Lecture, “Luminescent Nanothermometers: What's Next?” The page of the event can be seen here.

LD CaRLOS is the new CHIEF EDITOR of Frontiers JOURNAL

Luís Dias Carlos is now appointed as Specialty Chief Editor in the Frontiers in Chemistry journal,  Inorganic Chemistry. This interdisciplinary Specialty section is devoted to every aspect of inorganic chemistry. The field covers all chemical compounds, with the exception of those exclusively composed of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen which are the subject of organic chemistry.

BROWNIAN MOTION IN THE MEDIA

Press coverage of the our recent paper about the  measurement of the instantaneous ballistic velocity of Brownian nanocrystals suspended in both aqueous and organic solvents. To achieve this, we develop a technique based on upconversion nanothermometry.

PROTOTYPES in  THE EUROPEAN RESEARCHERS NIGHT

The GFHybrids participated in the last European Researchers Night held in Fabrica da Ciencia of Aveiro.

The group was represented by the Luminescent Thermometry and Luminescent Solar Concentrators presented by Carlos Brites and Sandra Correia, respectively.  The European Researchers Night is an public event  promoted by the European Union dedicated to popular science and fun learning. It takes place each year on the last Friday in September. More than 30 countries and over 300 cities are involved.

Carlos Brites in RCS EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES COMPETITION

The Emerging Technologies Competition is the Royal Society of Chemistry’s annual innovation initiative, turning promising ideas into commercial reality. The event aims to accelerate the commercialisation of innovative technologies in several areas. GFHybrids presented the Luminescence Thermometry in the final of the Materials competition.

L.D. Carlos was elected Corresponding Member of the  Brazilian Academy of Sciences, that recognize the relevant collaboration in the Science development in Brazil.

Gulbenkian Prize for A. Bastos

Ana Rita Bastos, PhD Student of GFHybrids was one of the awarded projects by the Gulbenkian Foundation (Portugal). The project entitled "Low-cost integrated-optics circuits for a new optical-fiber generation ", is oriented by Rute André (CICECO), Mário Lima and Paulo André (IST).

Best Short Talk Communication for C. D.S. Brites

Carlos D. S. Brites, PostDoctoral researcher in of GFHybrids was awarded with the prize "Best Short Talk Communication" in the  XVIII Krutyn Summer School Krytin, Poland. The presentation co-authoured by P. P. Lima, N. J. O. Silva, A. Milan, V. S. Amaral, F. Palacio, L. D. Carlos was entitled "Joining Thermometry and Heating in a Single Hybrid Nanoparticle".
